REVIEW: My new favorite neighborhood pizza spot - Pasqually’s Pizza.
During quarantine, I have been getting a lot of food delivered to the house and stumbled across a new neighborhood spot on GrubHub – Pasqually’s Pizza & Wings. I ordered last week and it was the best pizza I have ever had in my life. Now that a few restaurants around me are starting to reopen at limited capacity, I decided to get out of the house and visit Pasqually’s in person.
I entered Pasqually’s and security was very tight. This was my first experience paying for cover at a restaurant. They asked for my hand and gave me a stamp, a bit more human contact than I was comfortable with my first time out, but they then ran it under a blacklight so assuming that kills germs – see below.
I soon found out that Pasqually’s was much more than a pizza place. After getting past security, I found a mini mart where guests could buy household goods and eesentials. I browsed their selection and did not find much useful – perhaps some of the items were toiletry items imported from Italy? See below for a photo I took of what seemed to be an authentic Italian feminine hygiene product.
I picked up a few essentials and a slappy hand toy, headed to checkout, but found that my credit card was not accepted at Pasqually’s. I got out a different card but the clerk started to explain that Pasqually’s had their own barter economy within their four walls where guests exchanged Pasqually’s currency (coins and tickets branded with the head of a mouse) for goods? Very strange. It was getting very complex and my tummy was rumbling so I just put the items back on the shelves and headed for the dining room.
We sat down at a table and were greeted by our server who walked us through the menu. Our server also offered us a tableside meet & greet with the owner which was interesting, but we politely declined. After ordering we sat back, relaxed, and enjoyed the house band – Munch’s Make Believe Band who were absolutely shredding. They were an eclectic bunch who played a mix of covers and originals. However, I could not shake the feeling that the lead singer would not break eye contact with me.
Our pizza came out and it was just as I remembered it. Tasting notes: ketchup, cardboard, Kraft singles, and oregano. I know that does not seem appetizing but an advanced palate would understand this complex flavors.
It was time to leave and I asked the front desk the best place to grab a cab ride home. He directed me across the lobby to a car where the lead singer of the band was riding shotgun. A bit disturbed by the previous eye contact, I politely declined – besides I don’t do Uber Pool.
10/10 – new favorite local spot.
