NFL DFS Value Plays - Week 8
QB
Ryan Tannehill $7,500
Tannehill is averaging 22.7 PPG, which is good for 3x his price going into week 8. Going into this week’s matchup against the Bengals, he is actually cheaper than Joe Burrow, which I find surprising. Tannehill has been one of the best QBs in the league through the first 8 weeks, but his performance has been overshadowed by the likes of Burrow’s hot rookie start, Kyler Murray’s breakout year, Brady’s resurgence, and Russel Wilson’s MVP campaign. I think Tannehill is a Top 5 QB this week, with Top 3 upside.
Jimmy Garroppolo $6,600
It’s been a rough year for Jimmy G and his price has hit rock bottom. He is just $100 more than BEN DINUCCI this week. While Garroppolo has not provided much fantasy value in 2020, the price is too hard to pass up for a veteran QB taking on a Seattle team that has given up the most points to opposing QBs.
RB
Jonathan Taylor $7.300
I have been on the Taylor Train all year long, patiently awaiting his breakout game. While Taylor has been extremely consistent this season (10+ pts in 5 of 6 games), he has yet to put up a “big game” of 20+ pts. I think there is upside for a 20 point performance vs a weak Lions defense in week 8, and at worst you will deliver 1.5-2x value as Taylor’s floor.
Boston Scott $6,800
In Scott’s 16 career games as the Philadelphia backup RB, he has received 15+ touches on 3 occasions. In those games he scored: 21.8 pts, 33.8 pts, and 16.7 pts. He is set for a similar workload with Miles Sanders ruled out another week. While Scott will be highly owned in week 8, he is hard to pass up.
Myles Gaskin $5,700
I have been extremely high on Gaskin all year, featuring him in this colum in Week 4, Week 5, and Week 6. The only reason he wasnt featured in Week 7 was because he had a bye week! This week, Gaskin is back in my lineup but will be taking handoffs from a new QB. I have to imagine that Brian Flores will lean heavily on Gaskin to lessen the load on rookie QB Tua Tagovialoa. Myles Gaskin is averaging 18 touches per game in 2020 - I don’t expect anything less, even with a new QB under center.
WR
Tee Higgins $6,000
Joe Burrow throws the ball more than any QB in the NFL. The 2020 Bengals have the type of Bengals volume that can make even a WR3 fantasy relevant. But is Higgins really the WR3 in this offense? Veteran WR AJ Green has the sixth worst catch rate in the NFL, despite ranking 11th in targets. Higgins has done more, with less opportunity, with 400+ yards and 3 TDs on the year. I expect AJ Green’s targets to go Higgins’ way as the year progresses.
Corey Davis $5,400
Corey Davis has been a sneaky-good #2 WR for Ryan Tannehill since returning from the COVID-19 list. Davis has seen 7+ targets per game, which is more in the WR1 range in terms of opportunity. I like that Davis is getting Top 25 WR opportunities at a Top 50 WR price.
Scotty Miller $5,600
The buzz of Antonio Brown’s signing in Tampa Bay has fantasy owners excited for the TB>AB connection. NOT SO FAST, MY FRIEND! Scotty Miller has emerged as a solid WR3 option for Tom Brady, averaging 16.6 YPC which is good for fifth most in the NFL for any WR with over 20 catches. With Chris Godwin ruled out for week 8, I expect Brady to look Miller’s way on the deep ball.
TE
Rob Gronkowski $5,600
I am officially declaring that Gronkwoski is BACK. After starting the season with just 9 REC/88 YD/0 TD through 4 games, Gronk has 13 REC/192 YD/2 TD over his last three games. It looks like Gronk finally has his legs under him after his brief retirement and the Brady > Gronk connection has been re-established.
Dallas Goedert $5,500
While there are some concerns around Goedert’s health going into week 8 given his quick recovery, the potential volume is too good to pass up. Dallas Goedert was Carson Wentz’s favorite target during the first two weeks of the season, even with Zach Ertz in the lineup. Now, Goedert is back with Ertz out for the season. Goedert should be the #1 or #2 (behind emerging WR Travis Fulgham) for the rest of the season.
